Dimitri has broadened the definitions of Disco to mean just about everything included on this latest by Defected. From electronic dizziness to straight-up screaming vocals this two cd set has all of that, and then some more. The first disc is a ‘live’ recording from London’s Horse And Groom which blends together a cosmopolitan mix of everybody from Soul Clap to Miguel Campbell, to Maceo Plex and DJ T, perfectly capturing that party feeling of ‘being there’. Beginning with slow-burning funk, then engaging with euro-disco and beyond, the meandering journey ends up with the early-nineties House sounding Elz & Elise ‘Soul Power’ and finishes with the sound of cheering crowds - so it must be good. The studio recorded second cd feels less raw, though still packs plenty of punch with even more in the way of hi-nrg sounds, including his and DJ Rocca’s version of Pet Shop Boys ‘Domino Dancing’ and rounds off with Dimitri’s own remix of Dan Hartman ‘Relight My Fire’. Mirror Balls at dawn.
