Gus Gus are a remarkable group, notable for their staying power but also their consistency. ‘Arabian Horse’ is a cause for celebration because it brings vocalist Earth back to the fold – and picks up where their high quality first album for Kompakt, ’24-7′, left off. There are some excellent tracks on ‘Arabian Horse’ that crackle with atmosphere, such as ‘Be With Me’ and the string-laced title track, while some of the lyrics from Earth are quality too, especially ‘Over”s assertion that ‘you move me physically…spiritually’. Few bands have the talent to maintain atmosphere over songs of eight minutes like Gus Gus do, and throughout this record they achieve intense emotion as well as the need to dance like there’s no tomorrow.
