Hot Chip take the top spot

1 (2) HOT CHIP – FLUTES – DOMINO

One of the best bands on the planet make an open arms welcome return in their own very distinctive style. Their fifth L.P. In Our Heads is their first for Domino and is due in June. Be very excited.

2 (3) VELOCIRAPTOR – IN THE SPRINGTIME – TOO PURE SINGLES CLUB

Australian 12 piece cooking up some exciting snarling dirty basement garage rock with a pop twist. Makes you want to do snakebite and speed at one of their gigs.

3 (10) THE GOLDEN FILTER – KILL ME – PERFECTLY ISOLATED

Spirit stirring gothic pop with flickering shadows atmospherics and that all important dripping tap. Rosemary and John Talbot steal the show in the remix dept.

4 (6) M83 – REUNION / REMIXES – NAÏVE

The original breath taking beauty is set to do the rounds again, and this time it’s going to be a surefire hit, armed with a pumping Euro disco mix care of Mylo, and a fluid, deep and spacious number from Sei A, which is the glacial cherry on the sugar frosted cake.

5 (1) CHRIS COCO – HOLIDAY REMIXES – MELODICA

The song that launched Melodica has been re-worked and is set to blow up over the summer. The man with the plan Chris Coco flexes his opium den deep house credentials and delivers an absolute stunner, Sare Havlick serves up a couple of disco and Italo beauties, and Deekie greet a new dawn with their own holistic retreat answer version. Lovely stuff.

6 (4) SWEET LIGHTS – SWEET LIGHTS – HIGHLINE

A beautiful bittersweet debut L.P. from Philadelphia’s Shai Halperin, not your average singer songwriter by a long shot, this is definitely a bit special.

7 (9) DJANGO DJANGO – STORM – BECAUSE

Lifted from their excellent self titled debut L.P. This picks up The Beta Band baton and takes it to psychedelic pastures new. Wonderful stuff.

8 (NEW) DAMON ALBARN – THE MARVELOUS DREAM – EMI

The first cut lifted from his forthcoming L.P. Dr Dee, doffs a cap to David Bowie the Decca years, and very good it is too.

9 (13) TRAILER TRASH TRACEYS – LOS ANGERED – DOUBLE SIX

London quartet oozing a warm shimmering wall of sound. Comes backed with the spangled dreamer You Wish You Were Red, currently in use on a Renault ad.

10 (12) DAVID LYNCH – NOAH’S ARK / MOBY REMIX – SUNDAY BEST

Deep and moody house with lush atmospheric pads swirling around spine tingling spooky whispers.

11 (7) ANDY LEWIS & WESLEY DOYLE – THE BEST OF DAYS / BARNEY’S THEME – ACID JAZZ

Go straight for Barney’s Theme on the flip, a bubble gum dancer that’s a bit Young Holt Trio meets The Archies, bringing 70’s right on cartoons to mind.

12 (15) MEN OF NORTH COUNTRY – MIRROR MAN / THE NORTH –

ACID JAZZ

Head straight for The North on the flip, a stomping slab of 60’s influenced quality pop that’s pretty much guaranteed to make you put on your best clobber and hold your head high.

13 (20) KRAAK & SMAAK FT. ROMANTHONY – BUILT FOR LOVE – JALAPENO

Farley & Heller get back in the driving seat with a couple of deep acid tinged mixes and Psychemagik take it to the retro futurist disco.

14 (14) HEADMAN – TURNING EP – RELISH

Be Loved gets a mind expanding dose, care of Richard Fearless from Death In Vegas, and Scott Fraser’s Basement Riposte Dub of the title cut gets the floor bumping.

15 (NEW) THE UNITS – CONNECTIONS E.P. – OPILEC MUSIC

Late 70’s punk funk outfit from San Francisco get some bang up to date but keeping it dirty remix treatment from Todd Terje and I-Robots.

16 (19) THE MAGNETIC FIELDS – QUICK! – DOMINO

Coming over like an 80’s MOR FM classic with a 21st century electronic geek twist.

17 (11) DEAD MELLOTRON – GLITTER – SONIC CATHEDRAL

Baltimore trio with an L.P. of rousing melodies, dreamy memories and spangly guitars with just the right amount of fuzz. The soundtrack to lost days on Super 8.

18 (NEW) THE DUBWOOD ALLSTARS - UNDER DUBWOOD /

THE TIME AND SPACE MACHINE - RIVER THEME – RIVERTONES

Debut release from Caught By The River’s Rivertones label is a corking double A 7”. Richard Burton meets Ali Baba flipped with Richard Norris on a low slung psychedelic wig out.

19 (20) AMON TOBIN – BOX SET – NINJA TUNE

All the hits and more in a strictly limited Box Set containing 6 x 10” vinyl, 7 x CD, 2 x DVD and a few posters. Collectors… Get ready to wet yourselves.

20 (NEW) THE BERSARIN QUARTETT – II – DENOVALI

Their sophomore L.P. is a very moving ambient masterpiece.

21 (24) D’STEPH FT. JNM – REMEDY E.P. – JALAPENO

Two cuts of bass heavy dub infused skank attack out of Belgium, and a nice skippy number that utilises Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On.

22 (16) ONE LITTLE PLANE – INTO THE TREES – TEXT

An L.P. of tender folk songs with a smattering of electronics, sung in a slight husky breathy style and produced by Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet. If Suzanne Vega…

23 (18) THE CAST OF CHEERS – ANIMALS – SCHOOL BOY ERROR

A nice jolly up with jagged bits, sweet African guitar licks and rousing choruses.

24 (25) WILLY MOON – YEAH YEAH – LUV LUV LUV / ISLAND

Boombastic big beat bonanza with ruff cuts, raw edges and plenty to shout about.

25 (NEW) TOBOR EXPERIMENT DISCO EXPERIENCE – THE REMIX EXPERIENCE – BEAR FUNK

Stevie Kotey’s take on Shivers comes over like some unearthed forgotten gem of David Bowie on the old Joanna in a disco fun pub.

26 (21) CLAP RULES – GOLDEN REMIXES – BEARFUNK

Four cuts from last year’s Golden Hands LP get a rebirth. Emperor Machine peaks with Silver Mountains, a cosmic disco builder with futurist flashes and off kilter vocals. In Flagranti twists Oh Uibe, dropping a great sample into the breakdown, and Mock & Toof get deep down & dirty with Fantasmi.

27 (28) THE HEELS OF LOVE – FLIGHT 707 – NANG

Jadoo gets percussive with some delirious trolly dolly disco, and Billy Bogus turns on the tribal machines.

28 (NEW) CERA ALBA – SAVE THE DAY EP – TURQUOISE BLUE

Spooky twisted vocal samples fly around horror b movie synths driven by an abyss like groove. Be careful with the hallucinogens.

29 (26) FILTHY DUKES – WHETHER WITH ME EP – KILL EM ALL

Four tracks of sparse house and techno that’s all about getting locked in the groove.

30 (29) MR G – DANCEHOLIC’S EP – HOLIC TRAX

Brand new label debuts with a nice bunch of tracky stuff.
