Saturday, 25 October 2014 in Zzub Chart

5th December 2011 - High five to Scope at No. 1

1 (12) SCOPE FT. TERRY GRANT – SEVEN REASONS – LARGE MUSIC

Deep and melodic acid house with a superb vocal and an early Djax / Peacefrog feel. Nice.

2 (4) GRAINGERBOY – THREECROWNS – POPCRISIS

Debut solo release of well crafted electronic indie pop with effective clever clever vocal manipulation.

3 (1) THE LOVELY EGGS – ALLERGIES – TOO PURE SINGLES CLUB

First rate punk pop that builds into a ramshackle psychedelic crescendo. Guaranteed to put a spring in your step. Backed with another Royston Vasey congregation belter Slug Graveyard.

4 (5) SMOOVE & TURRELL – GABRIEL – JALAPENO

The Geordie duo round off a very successful 2011 with a 70’s influenced anthem. Another winner from their soul drenched LP Eccentric Audio.

5 (15) THE RHYTHM ODYSSEY FT. MAIN STEM – DEVIL’S TEASE – LIPSERVICE

Classic Chicago house elements work into a basement jackin’ session. Comes with a great eye popping acid mix.

6 (9) MICKEY MOONLIGHT – CLOSE TO EVERYTHING – ED BANGER

Deep house groover with a back in the day Balearic feel and a spot on vocal care of George Lewis Jnr. From the forthcoming LP which is like a night out with cosmic intergalactic disco hippies.

7 (3) THE VACCINES – WETSUIT – SONY

The break through band of the year, end 2011 with another anthem from their debut LP. They deserve all the backslapping they’re going to get.

8 (13) DECO CHILD – PRAY – NINJA TUNE

Warm bass tones support a fragile towering spire, teetering in cold winds with a glistening frosted edge. Comes backed with Nocturne, a beautiful piano lament with a twist.

9 (18) GOMMA ALL STARS FT PEACHES – CASABLANCA REWORKS – GOMMA

Peaches goes soft with Moullinex, Telonius, Munk and The Phenomenal Handclap Band, covering 4 disco cuts from the Casablanca Records archives.

10 (2) STEPHEN MALKMUS & THE JICKS – SENATOR – DOMINO

Beck produced and coming on like controversial West Coast indie with a sting in its tail. “Cattle prod the working classes”.

11 (NEW) RED HORSES OF THE SNOW – TERRITORIES – FLASHBACK

Lavishly produced debut LP of shimmering songs with beautiful harmonies and a hint of modern psychedelia.

12 (NEW) FAIREWELL – POOR POOR GRENDEL – SONIC CATHEDRAL

27 Years old Johnny White delivers a debut LP of soaring soundscapes far from the madding crowd, in his own world of “magical loneliness”.

13 (14) SPEECH DEBELLE – STUDIO BACKPACK RAP – BIG DADA

The 2009 Mercury Music Prize winner bounces back with a much bigger and more urgent sound. The new LP Freedom Of Speech is due February 2012.

14 (NEW) KENNA FT. SHIMMY HOFFA – CHAINS – CHEAP THRILLS

Contemporary club pop with considerably more bounce to the ounce. Machines Don’t Care and Klifton Manner do the mixes.

15 (22) L-VIS 1990 – FEEL THE VOID – PMR / ISLAND

Like an old school house mix of an 80’s pop tune. Paul Woolford ups the ante with his Afterhours Mix.

16 (20) ANDY ASH – BROKEN NIGHTS EP – BLACK KEY

The opening track Broken is a fat slab of chunky scouse house, that has got a certain early 90’s feel. Nice.

17 (17) MINA TINDLE – MINA TINDLE EP – BELIEVE

Six track EP ranging from hooky slightly left of centre organic pop, through to delicately strummed & fragile beauties. This young Parisian is going places.

18 (24) BOZZWELL – AMBITION – CLOUDED VISION

Well produced deep and twisted vocal house. A stoners delight.

19 (21) 1BLIP2 – ALONE / TOOK MY LOVE – MELODICA

Mysterious duo deliver chilled techno with a Balearic twist. Comes backed with a spiked cocktail lounge special.

20 (NEW) FAIREWELL – IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER / CHRISTMAS EVE – SONIC CATHEDRAL

Less Ho! Ho! Ho!...More stuck in a blizzard.

21 (25) DIAFRIX – SIMPLE MAN FT. DANIEL MERRIWEATHER – ILLUSIVE

Saccharin coated chatty pop from Melbourne, Australia. T. Williams batters the fuck out of it in a breaks style, and MANIK takes it to the underwater 80’s disco.

22 (19) LAKI MERA – CRATER – JUST MUSIC

Fellow Glaswegians Mogwai slow the pace adding long & deep bass tones, complementing the floaty vocals, sending them drifting into a world of bliss.

23 (23) SKINTOLOGISTS – MAGPIE – MELODICA

Fritz Catlin of 23 Skidoo fame teams up with Mr Diablo ex Welfare Heroine and singer Kerieva for a nice skanking workout with exceptional soulful & jazzy vocals.

24 (NEW) BOWSKI – POPPIES EP – BLOOD MUSIC

A fresh and heart warming carefully prepared simmering electronic stew with space dust for garnish.

From Russia with love electronic 70’s futuristic disco, with floaty vocals care of Michelle Bee
