Yak 40, the moniker of electronic artist Egor Antoshchenko, is set to release his deeply personal debut album, ‘Travelogue’. Inspired by his life as a modern nomad, this record encapsulates the emotional depth and eclectic influences gained through two years of travel across Asia. Yak 40 first made waves with his 2022 EP ‘Made in Nepal’, recorded during a three-month stay in the Himalayas. Now, with ‘Travelogue’, Yak 40 takes his sonic storytelling to new heights. From the serene Himalayan villages of Nepal to the bustling streets of Bangkok, ‘Travelogue’ immerses listeners in a richly textured soundscape of organic beats, ambient echoes, and dancefloor-ready techno. DMCWorld goes Back to mine with Yak 40.
Alicon – Tension Release
Alicon is a young Italian producer I discovered a year ago, and I really hope he gets the recognition he deserves. The guy is awesome—whether it’s a house banger or an ambient track, he always brings an interesting twist. Check him out, you’ll thank me later!
Salamanda – Overdose
Salamanda is a fantastic South Korean duo making leftfield playful ambient music—dreamy and eccentric at the same time. Strangely, their approach to music reminds me of The Orb in their heyday. I love the Eastern vibe too.
Volkov Trio feat. Arkady Shilkloper – He Said That He Too
Mixing world music, free jazz, and prog rock, Volkov Trio is easily one of the finest Russian jazz bands. In fact, everything bassist Vladimir Volkov touches turns to gold. This track is from their album Fragment, recorded with the renowned French horn player Arkady Shilkloper.
Jimi Tenor – My Mind
Jimi Tenor is a true Finnish treasure. I’m a big fan of his jazz albums, and his earlier records were crucial during my formative years. I was lucky to walk around Saint Petersburg with him and have a few drinks. I promised to send him some salty pickles, which he loves, but I still haven’t—my bad.
Daniel Avery – One More Morning
I love the way Avery balances hard techno bangers with intimate melodic tracks like this. He has that shoegaze approach to sound, making everything feel big and ethereal. I borrowed some of his techniques for my track “Mahalaxmi Unltd.”
Neon Lights – Lazy
A lovely, wonderfully crafted melancholic song by Saint Petersburg guitarist and songwriter Eugene Lazarenko and his project Neon Lights. Dance-pop at its best. “Life is passing by like a burning tram”—what a line!
Kate NV – Plans
I love everything Katya Shilonosova does—her experimental work, art-pop songs, and her guitar band Glintshake (GSH). It’s always intriguing, eccentric, and fun, with a great sense of melody.
Herbert – Never Give Up
Herbert is a master at turning everything—from a toothbrush to a horse’s skull—into music. Around the House is my all-time favorite dance record. Even after a billion spins, I still can’t get enough of it. It truly feels like home to me.
Arthur Russell – In the Light of the Miracle
Arthur Russell’s music is like water—you dive in and out. It’s so meditative, so light, so soothing, so otherworldly. Miracles are all around, and we shouldn’t forget this, especially in tough times like these.
Gacha Bakradze – Opi
Georgian producer Gacha Bakradze is a rare find. He creates very sophisticated music: melodic, soulful and deep. I loved his latest album Pancakes and mist have played it a hundred times.
