This version has never left my record box, I love it. It’s super smooth, a forgotten classic in my eyes.
Ocean Colour Scene – Bellechoux
An unexpected delightful Balearic masterpiece from the Birmingham Britpop boys. Percussion, dreamy flutes, it ticks all the wind down boxes for me.

Close your eyes, and escape. Flamenco guitar played beautifully by my old friend Manuel, and proudly features on Jim Breese’s Balearic vol. 4.
Depeche Mode – Never Let Me Down (Extended 12”)
An all-time favourite, I’ve been a fan of DM since the 80s, and they’ve been a big musical influence on me. Love this version of Never Let Me Down. The extended dub section towards the end is bloody genius, it never gets old!
Simple Minds – Somebody Up There Likes You
I suppose you could categorise this track as, Ambient, but mostly I just see it as light years ahead of its time! Jim Kerr said something like, “It was the band’s take on Pink Floyd and Santana”. Perfect description. It’s epic!
Ned Doheny – Get It Up For Love
Beautiful and atmospheric, classically sublime. Balearic classic or Yacht Rock, I don’t care, it has this kind of 70s California vibe that simply wraps itself around me, and I can’t help but sing along!
Chris Rea – Josephine (Version #4)
This version is so, so good. The piano solo at the end is just something else. I’d argue that this is the best-ever version, and so would my wife, Samantha. It’s a big favourite of hers, so it belongs on my list.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians: Circle (Remix)
I remember hearing this back in ‘89 when it was released on a cheeky white label. It stood out a mile and still does. It made me love the world and everyone in it.
Jacob Gurevitsch – Elevation In Minor (Cosmodelica Remix)
I am dreaming of Ibiza at the moment, and this is the perfect soundtrack, I can almost feel the sand between my toes. Colleen (Cosmo) Murphy is a good friend and supporter of my music but equally a big inspiration to me. She’s an incredibly forward-thinking DJ, and her production is slick. She’s also a very lovely person!
