With house, electro, techno, or dance music as a whole, there’s a specific sweet spot where a tune can just as easily be rinsed on a hazy dancefloor as it can be received like a looping spiritual mantra, bridging a gap between celebration and therapy. Rezident, the project of emerging 24-year-old German producer David Roif, has been demonstrating this on his releases on labels such as Anjunadeep and Purified Records, among many others. As his new ‘Air’ EP drops, DMCWorld goes back to mine with Rezident.
Bonobo – Cirrus
This track influenced me a lot when I found it years ago. There’s not much music like it. I love this blend of acoustic and electronic music.
Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Last Day (David August Revision)
The transition from the atmospheric soundscape into the ‘drop’ is great. I love the songwriting, sound design and the way the percussion sounds in this record.
Oliver Schories, Tube & Berger – Caprice (Midas 104 Remix)
So many cool sounds in this one. I love the percussion, bassline, and the dreamy soundscape in the break.
Ben Böhmer – Fliederregen
One of my favorite Ben Böhmer tracks. It’s super peaceful and still a dance track.
Adryiano – On My Side
I discovered this one during college when a friend played it to me. It’s a really nice memory of that moment and that time in general. This record one of the classics for me.
King Krule – The Cadet Leaps
I discovered this one when I was visiting a couple friends in Switzerland. It’s stuck in my head since then and I love listening to the albums when going for a run.
Caribou – Melody Day (Four Tet Remix)
This one is one of my all time favorites. The remix brings out the elements from the original in a completely new way.
Özgür Can – Fall In The
I discovered this one about 2 months ago when a random guy was playing it at the flea market at Boxhagener Platz in Berlin. I had to ask for the track ID. It was one of the first sunny and warm days and I listened to it on repeat for the day.
Sneaky Sound System – Always By Your Side (Nicolas Jaar “Big” Version)
Beautiful tune. I found it in a Spotify Playlist and love listening to it when I’m travelling.
Omar S – Day
This one is really fun to play when hanging out. Or you can dance to it. You could do anything. It feels very live and the groove keeps going throughout the whole track.
Rezident ‘Air’ EP is out now.
